January 24, 2009:   AGRItunity 200--Meeting the Needs of Farmers .. Large & Small. Being held at the Hernando County Fairgrounds at 6436 Broad Street (US 41S) in Brooksville, FL. Runs from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.   AGRItunity is an agricultural expo that offers workshops, exhibits, and a tradeshow which aims to meet the needs of farmers large and small.

April 29, 2009: Horticulture BMP’s for Water Conservation and Treatment The workshop is April 29 from noon – 4 p.m. at the UF/IFAS Gulf Coast Research and Education Center.  There is an optional tour of the Riverview Flower Farm earlier that morning, from 10- 11:30 a.m., at 5363 Bonita Drive, Wimauma, which will highlight new research and practical aspects of water conservation. The registration deadline is April 22.  There is a $15 per person for late registrations.  Pesticide CEUs have been applied for the morning and afternoon sessions.

August 1 and August 2, 2009: Florida Small Farms Alternative Conference. Osceola Heritage Park, Kissimmee, FL.

The Conference includes many activities that benefit small farmers including:

  • A general educational session to attract well known speakers on topics of broad interest.

  • Concurrent educational sessions (presentations, workshops, hands-on demonstration, and discussion groups) will be provided to share results of groundbreaking research and provide educational support for producers to operate sustainable and profitable enterprises.

  • A large exhibition area to introduce new products and technologies to small producers will be available.  Industry suppliers, allied organizations, educational groups, funding agencies, foundations, and other allied industry representatives with services for small farmers will be encouraged to participate.

  • Other activities will include other creative ways to facilitate farmer networking at the Conference.

  • All these activities in total will help facilitate networking, dialog, and visioning among members of the Florida small farms community, and to increase awareness of the small farms industry to decision makers, supporting institutions, and the general public.

  • August 4, 2009: Spanish Language IPM Scout Training . 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 at the MREC in Apopka. $10.00 per person, non refundable. CEU'S and Certificate available.
